CURLEW SCHOOL COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION
Regular Meeting Minutes
September 18, 2006 7:00 p.m., Home Ec. Room 

The meeting was called to order by chairperson, Heather Gibson.  Others present were Cec Hamilton, Bret Simpson, and Wanda Fletcher. 

The minutes from the last meeting of March 20 were approved with the following corrections:  Nikki Kroupa resigned the position as track coach but will remain the cross-country coach.  Chris Bell will be the track and field coach. 

There was no treasurer’s report.  Jaigne Beck has resigned as treasurer.

 Old Business:

  • Heather will have Linell Miller look over our financial books in October to ascertain that everything is in order with the endowment fund.
  • Cec Hamilton was unanimously elected as the new treasurer.  New checks will be ordered which will require 2 signatures.  Heather’s is already on file, Cec will get hers on file ASAP.

 School Board Report:

  • A new language arts curriculum, Springboard, is being used in grades 6-12.

 Principal’s Report:

  • Open house will be Sept. 20.
  • Picture day is Sept. 28.
  • The ASB is excited and getting geared up for Trunk or Treat.  Grades 8-12 will be participating.
  • There is a need for community input on several topics/committees:  Instructional materials adoption, future of the senior trips, school policy on character education and sex education, and reviewing the student handbook.

 New Business:

  • Trunk or Treat is set for October 31, 5:00-7:00.  There is a need for help with tickets, concessions, and set-up.  CSCA will have the Cake Walk.  Parents will be asked to donate cakes.
  • The current school year’s projects for CSCA were reviewed.  These include:  Trunk or Treat, possibly apple sales, Book Fair, and the Science Fair.  A suggestion was made that the science teachers be asked to organize the Science Fair next year.
  • There was discussion about ways to increase membership and involvement in CSCA.  Cec volunteered to work on this.
  • There was some discussion about the Mission Statement and the need to review it.  No action was taken.
  • Future CSCA meetings will be held quarterly.  The next meeting will be on Dec. 11 at 4:00 p.m.
