PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

REGULAR MEETING

CALL MEETING TO ORDER       Brad Miller called the meeting to order at 4:30 p.m. Present --- Steve McCullough, Brad Miller, Jon Newman, Harold Strandberg, Gretchen Halbach, Jan Stephens, Terrie Morrison, Laurel Scott and Angel Glenwinkle.

APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES    Jan Stephens moved to approve the minutes of January 31, 2008. Jon Newman seconded the motion, motion carried.

COMMUNITY COMMENTS    None

REPORTS
John Newman attended the Republic School board meeting in February.

Principal
---Brett attended the OSPI conference in Spokane on January 30^th and 31^st with John Bell and Bonnie Grumbach.
---Brett and Kara Walsh will be attending the Navigation 101 Regional Workshop on February 19^th.
---February 29^th is mid quarter.
---March 14^th is LID day; the teachers will be attending a workshop in Springdale.
---March 10^th thru 14^th will be high school WASL testing for reading and writing.

Superintendent
---Steve spoke with Fred Lee a broker from AIG on insurance for the school district.
---The Senate has a new budget out.
---Steve has been talking with the local fire department on using the fire station as a shelter for the school in an emergency.
---We have had 2 break downs with the boiler since we last met.
---We had an issue with the Fed-X driver and a bus driver. The Fed-X driver tried to drive through the bus loading zone.

Financial Report
Enrollment for February is 213.34 FTE without Parent Partnership, 10.55 FTE Parent Partnership.
Cash reserve is at $675,088.32.

Legislative Report      Brad gave the Legislative report.

BUSINESS
Gretchen Halbach moved to approve payment for the new bus from the Transportation Vehicle fund.
                  TVF voucher #1 $89,507.17
Jan Stephens seconded the motion, motion carried.

Jon Newman moved to approve the following bills and payroll for February, 2008.
    General Fund Vouchers 8905 through 8986         $ 53,701.70
    ASB Vouchers 4267 through 4275                           3,162.18
    Payroll                                                                174,886.47
Harold Strandberg seconded the motion, motion carried.

Jon Newman moved to approve resolution number 2008-02-02, VEBA for the Certificated Teachers Association for 2007/2008 school year. Gretchen Halbach seconded the motion, motion carried.

Contracts:
Jan Stephens moved to approve following spring sports contracts for:
            Landon Swafford - Volunteer for softball
            Brook Johnson Swafford – Head Softball Coach
            John Bell – Assistant Softball Coach
            Mario D’Lerma – Head Baseball Coach
            Seth Cribby – Assistant Baseball Coach
            Chris Bell – Spring Track and Field Coach
            Kerri Miller – Assistant Track and Field Coach
Jon Newman seconded the motion, motion carried.

Voc Aide: Jon Newman moved to approve having Gary McDonald as an aide in the 7^th period vocational class four days a week. Gretchen Halbach seconded the motion, motion carried.

2008/2009 School Calendar: Jan Stephens moved to approve draft #1 of the 2008/2009 school calendar. Jon Newman seconded the motion, motion carried.

Resignation: None

Policy Review:
Jon Newman moved to approve the 1^st reading of the 5000 series with changes to the following policies:
        5240 – Evaluation of staff        5405 – Emergency leave            5408 – Jury duty & Subpoena
        5520 – Staff Development        5525 – Professional, civic & service organizations memberships
Harold Strandberg seconded the motion, motion carried.

Planning and Discussion

NEW DISCUSSION ITEMS:
CTA negotiations beginning, Steve is working with Reed Benson on this.
Superintendent evaluation, the board will begin evaluation on Steve’s performance for this school year.
Graduation Philosophy: Board discussion on what graduation is and who gets to participate in it.

OLD DISCUSSION ITEMS:
Sexual Health Curriculum: Gretchen Halbach and Pam Newman will be on the committee.
Republic School Board Visitation: Angel Glenwinkle here from Republic.
